When to look at your tyres
- Tread getting close to the legal limitThe UK minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread. Grip drops well before that.
- Cuts, cracks or a bulge in the sidewallA bulge means internal damage — the tyre needs replacing.
- One tyre keeps losing pressureA slow puncture or a valve. Sometimes repairable, sometimes not.
- Wear on one edge onlyUsually a suspension or alignment issue worth finding first.
- Vibration at speedOften a balance issue — or tyre damage.
